    Quantum Of Awesome

I first have to admit, I have only seen two Bond films before. Sean Connery's From Russia With Love and Casino Royale. I saw Casino because I knew I would see Quantum of Solace, and I am glad that I did.

I know the history of Bond. I know how many movies, bad or good, have been made with the man and I know all of the actors who played him. When I go to see spy movies, I'm not interested in gadgets or spaceship battles.....I want smart villains that toy with people's minds rather than their tv's. The two Bond films I list above do so.....add Quantum to that list.

This Bond stays dark, with Daniel Craig glaring throughout the film and making you think he would straight up murder you. He is the best brooding Bond and turns in another stellar performance.

The opening car chase sequence takes place an hour after Casino Royale ends.....and the chase gets you fired up quick. The director, Marc Forster, is famous for stylish movies like Finding Neverland.....but fits the action mold just fine. Revenge is the theme that drives this movie from Haiti to Russia....and it is a great ride.

The only downfall of this movie, is that the Bond girl isn't very Bond girl-esque. In the past they have been bombshells that help or hinder Bond. In this one....she merely exists. While she is driven by revenge as well and helps Bond in the end, she merely appears here and there. While she is very fun to look at....she doesn't add that much to the movie.

The movie is not as good as Casino Royale, in my humble opinion. It has some action sequences that are far more intense and some fancier locations, but in the end it turns to a slightly far-fetched psychological spy movie. While it may not be as good as its predecessor, few things are. If you like Bond and anything having to do with spies....you owe it to yourself to see this movie. Good news too.....Daniel Craig has signed on for at least two more. Hell yes.

    Stay tuned.....

Like Guitar Hero... Only The Actual People

A Hall of Fame day in Cleveland just keeps getting better.

I'm part of a Palestra.net crew interviewing a series of guitar legends today. Earlier, we talked to Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.

If you're under the age of 50, you probably recognize the guy puffing on a cigarette in the picture above.

That would be Slash from Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver and general, overall awesomeness.

He walked in with "No Smoking" signs all over the place and lit up a cigarette. I was holding the boom mic right next to him... the big challenge was holding the mic close enough to get good audio, but far enough away to avoid having his ashes catch the furry mic cover on fire.

There are not many things that I would be willing to sacrifice a college football Saturday for. This definitely qualifies.

We'll have more from Cleveland later tonight.

    This... is... awesome

Check out this picture of us interviewing Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top!

You can see the boom mic (the big fuzzy thing) at the bottom of the picture. I'm holding that today.

What you can't see in the picture is that Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi is playing "Dead Or Alive" right above us. Seriously.

Billy has a guitar named "Pearly Gates." I would imagine that this will be a lot what it's like when I get to the actual pearly gates.
