A Stand Up Gal.
I've found over the years that a surprising number of musicians moved a lot as children. Maybe it's that rootlessness that lends itself to touring.
Self described "GM Brat" Amy LaVere was born along the Texas/Louisiana border, but her family moved 13 times during her formative years, before landing in Detroit. While in her teens LaVere was in a punk band called Last Minute that gained a bit of local notice. Later LaVere moved to Nashville and formed a duo called The Gabe and Amy Show. A few years hence she lit out again, this time for Memphis, and a solo career.
LaVere, and her upright bass leaning against her slight frame is a site to see. When she starts slapping that thing and singing, well you'll be entranced. Her blues, country, and jazz flecked music has loads of appeal too.
