Ohio Voter Selected to be “Backstage with Barack”
Before Convention Speech Northeast Ohio Native Among Ten Selected
Columbus, Oh – James Fondriest, a native of Massillon, Ohio, was one of ten supporters selected to be “Backstage with Barack” at the Democratic National Convention in Denver next week.
Fondriest, currently a law student at The Ohio State University, says that he still identifies as a Republican, but is supporting Barack Obama for President because he “finally feels like America has found a leader it can look up to and trust.”
As an undergraduate at OSU, Fondriest campaigned for George W. Bush in 2004, but after four-years of discontent and a deep desire to change America for the better, he is supporting Obama. He says that Sen. Obama has inspired him to believe in politics again and, most importantly, the power of the ordinary citizen.
The ten voters selected for backstage access for Obama’s speech next Thursday represent the diversity of Obama supporters and come from all across the country. The ten supporters were selected from ten different states, and each will be able to bring one guest. The supporters will receive airfare, accommodations, and will attend two days of convention activities -- including a private meeting with Senator Obama before his historic speech at Invesco Field in Denver on Thursday, August 28th.
“Senator Obama is focused on opening up the convention, his acceptance speech and the democratic process to more people than ever before. Supporters are responsible for building this movement and for bringing this campaign so far -- and Barack looks forward to sharing this moment with them,” said campaign manager David Plouffe.
Travelling to convention with Fondriest are Anne Rector (Indianapolis, IN), Eric Melder (Pennsylvania), Holly Stebing (Anchorage, AK), Barb Sackman (Fallon, MT), Kayla Whitaker (Fargo, ND) Marsha Shearer (The Villages, FL), Lenny Julius (Emerald Isle, NC), Trinace Johnson (Richmond, VA), and John Volkmar (Boulder, CO).
If you were noticed how each winner was from a swing state...you'd be thinking what I was thinking. Politics is politics, even with free air fare.
