Utah Is Not A Wet Diaper

Julie Garcia reporting from Columbus, OH (2008-11-20 13:48:37)

Few things make my blood boil, but this article pissed me off horrendously. They want to move the Sundance Film Festival from the state of Utah because members of the LDS church are against gay marriage!!! Seriously? There's a whole website dedicated to the cause. WTF?

I grew up in Utah and yeah it was a b*tch being one of the few non-morms. I've gone through people trying to convert me, judging me because I don't uphold the same 'morals and values', my opinion on religion being belittled.... 22 years of that will take its toll.

That being said I have attended Sundance. I'll tell you something, the vibe at Sundance is not at all how Utah is portrayed in the media. There's tons of culture, partying, art, music, and open-mindedness. I didn't see any Mormons trying to screw that up.

Utah has been called the 'ground zero' of hate and homophobia. Do you mean to tell me that all other Christians condone gay marriage?! N to the freakin' O. That's their argument though and they think that because there are so many hardworking gays and lesbians who participate in the festival, it should be moved from the conservative state.

Anywho, what I'm trying to say is that gay marriage is fine with me. Utah is not the butt plug America makes it out to be. It's a great place for a creative conglomeration of expression like Sundance. I'm still seeing red because of my immense annoyance.

Read the article with the link above to see what I'm ranting about.

Black Keys singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach is releasing a solo LP in February called 'Keep It Hid.' I told you on Music News I'd tell you who guests on the album. So here's the list according to NME.com:

'The album features guest spots by his uncle James Quine, who contributes vocal harmony and electric guitar on the track 'Street Walkin'', as well as Jessica Lea Mayfield, who sings on the track 'When the Night Comes', and Bob Cesare, who plays drums on 'Whispered Words', written by Auerbach's father.'

Aw yes.... we all know how Prince loves to sue, but this time he's the sue-ee.

Perez Hilton reported this: 'Prince is being sued by perfume company Revelations to the tune of $100,000 for providing no assistance in promoting a "3121" fragrance which utilized his likeness and the title of his 2006 album.'

So, it's just chump change to the brilliant 'I'm as sexy and pretty as a woman, but still a man' rockstar. Still, the premise makes me smirk in a smug sort of manner.

There Are Better Looking, Less Stupid Girls To Smooch

Read this excerpt from a Fox News article:

"according to People magazine, Johansson inspired the mega-hit “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry.

"In a new interview with Allure magazine, the sexy “Lost in Translation” star, 24, says she is flattered but that her lips are “kind of taken,” as she recently wed actor Ryan Reynolds."

Oh come on Katy! You couldn't choose a better looking less-dumb girl to write that song about? Before Scarlett decided to go all 'indie rock' and take herself seriously as a musician doing Tom Waits covers, I might have slightly respected that.

In an interview with Steppin Out magazine in August, Perry said:

"I was with my boyfriend at the time, and I said to him, 'I’m not going to lie: If Scarlett Johansson walked into the room and wanted to make out with me, I would make out with her. I hope you’re okay with that?'"

    Esstoopid.

    Love Is The Movement

I love the concept of 'To Write Love On Her Arms.' It's so simple and straightforward.

Here's a little bit about the organization: "To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery."

The whole idea came from a story that you can read on twloha.com if you click the 'Vision' tab.

I wrote love on my arms, take a look with the link provided.

    xoxo

    Source: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1599093/20081111/timberlake_justin.jhtml

Aw yes, what 20 something doesn't remember the good old days of TRL when Britney burst onto the scene in her pigtails and Carson Daly had a little more meat on his bones? The show is finishimo'd boys n' girls. Don't cry, I know you love what it became. *eyes shift quickly*

The last episode is set to air on Sunday and will feature a slew of artists: Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock, Snoop Dogg, Nelly, JC Chasez, 50 Cent, Fall Out Boy, Ludacris, the Backstreet Boys, Beyoncé, Travis Barker, and Christina Aguilera

Past hosts will be there as well: Lyndsey Rodrigues, Vanessa Minnillo, Dave Holmes, Jesse Camp, Hilarie Burton, La La Vasquez, and Quddus

What about Carson?! And who are all these other people? *tear*
